I want to talk to some Trump supporters right now. Not the hardcore MAGA nutcases--those people are tapped in the head. I'm talking to the still sane folks whose support for Trump has waned but they're still on the fence about who to vote for next week. #thread
Look, I get it. You don't like what Trump says but you can't bring yourself to vote Democrat. Plus you don't want to hear "I told you so" & get crap from annoying liberals like me telling you how late to the party you are. So I want to offer a few facts and a proposition.
First, know that A LOT of Democrats aren't thrilled with Biden/Harris. He wasn't their first choice bc he's too moderate, did things like flip flop on the Hyde amendment related to the federal funding of abortion, and represents progress that is too incremental for progressives.
And Harris is not the "most liberal person in Congress" like Trump says. Many dems were hesitant to vote for her because her prosecutorial record shows a hesitancy to prosecute police. So Biden/Harris is a compromise ticket with which many Dems aren't thrilled.
So my proposition is this--vote Biden in the privacy of the voting booth and never admit it if you don't want to. You don't have to offer a mea culpa, make amends, or publicly flog yourself for once voting Trump. No "I told you so" needed. Just as long as you do the right thing.
And that doesn't mean Biden is 100% right. He's not. Dems know this all too well. But compared to Donald Trump he is the right choice because Trump is wrong. Wrong about COVID, wrong about "fake news," and wrong for the country. He's a disaster, and you know this.
And even if you do publicly admit you jumped from the MAGA ship to vote for Biden, I promise not to judge you. In fact, I'll gladly jump in to defend you from the onslaught because it's brave to admit you're wrong and take steps to fix it. That deserves respect, not scorn.
So that's it. Do what's right in the voting booth where no one will know. Criticize Biden and Dems all you want after that, that's fair game. But please, vote for Biden because Trump is poison and he can't continue to infect this country. Please. Do the right thing.
