In discussions about the positivity rates being used by the Big Ten to make decisions about whether games will be played, there& #39;s something that has struck me as curious. Stick with me on this one.
The B1G uses metrics to make decisions. To a point, anyway. Any positivity rates that are in red/red in the chart below and a team is shut down for at least seven days, no questions asked.
But with orange/orange or orange/red, there& #39;s subjectivity introduced into the process where a team has to "consider" the viability of continuing with games and practices.
I& #39;m told the B1G is planning additional language for its protocols for orange/orange or orange/red that will include presidents/chancellors, ADs and medical and public health officials weighing in, but that& #39;s still a subjective matter where it can be unclear who makes the call.
I wonder whether the B1G will make it more explicit who has the final decision.
