Poor and working class people get financial literacy courses and lectured on personal responsibility. We often go into some sort of debtors prison just to get by. Rich people get special bankruptcy laws, bailed out of failed businesses, and use our tax dollars as their safety net
Look at the payday loan industry and tell me that is not modern day debtors prison. Look at the amount of fines and fees that get put on poor people that they have to pay or they lose their drivers license, or they lose their job which further puts them into debt.
