Polar amplification at #EO4polar introduced by @SteffenMalskaer
Kicking off with @RDavy84 - always good to start with Nansen and how much more we know now...
This is pretty interesting from Richard Davy: more than half of #Arctic populations are already living in a 3C warmer world (combination of Urban Heat Island #UHI and #ArcticAmplification)

#EO4Polar
Should we expect #Antarctic Amplification? Well, maybe not immediately....

In models the amplified warming seems to be delayed until the climate equilibriates - probably due to the ocean + ice sheets which take a long time to come into balance.

#EO4Polar
Where is the heat? And what is the role of the ocean?

A very nice talk by @jb_sallee also introducing the @SO_CHIC_EU #H2020 project on the southern oceans.

Now @lchahn_uw on assymetry between the poles in atmospheric amplification - strong lapse rate feedbacks, (making #Antarctica flat must have been a fun experiment)
As I'm not quite sure how much of this is published I won't tweet figures from @lchahn_uw but really interesting work on lapse rate feedbacks and topography in regulating #AntarcticAmplification More in these references:
(As an aside, I have a project with @NORCEresearch Petra Langebroek on the importance of topography in #Greenland - but as I have no hope of finishing it soon I'm looking for an MSc student to work on it. Send me a message if you think this maybe sounds/looks cool)
Very nice work from @lchahn_uw - worth looking up.

On to @MetOffice_Sci Doug Smith introducing #PAMIP and @applicate_eu looking into #PolarAmplification : Does reduced #Arctic #SeaIce promote an NAO response altering European winters?
It's controversial...

#EO4Polar
The #PAMIP results are really *really* interesting..

16 atmosphere only models, robust response in the troposphere but the stratosphere is not

And there is a large spread...

#EO4Polar
Too much to tweet - go and check out the #PAMIP papers!
