Recently I took a long awaited break from work &visited a little hill station near Mumbai - “Matheran” one of the few places in 🇮🇳 where cars & vehicles are not allowed. A photo & information thread. It’s about 80 km from #Mumbai & currently accessible only by road #Matheran (1)
We stared from South Mumbai via freeway and were at the point till where vehicles are allowed in 2 hrs! (It can take 2 hrs from my home to airport at times so this was impressive) The ghat toads are wide, smooth and well marked ( @RoadsOfMumbai would appreciate) #Matheran (2)
As we move upwards of the ghat, it starts getting cooler (remember to open windows to enjoy views and weather) #Matheran #Mumbai (3)
Once we reach the point till vehicles are allowed, need to get entry tickets and then embark on a 45-60 min journey by foot. Options of horse 🐎 ride or manually pulled rickshaws are available. There are no roads and you feel like walking thru a jungle. #Matheran #Nature (4)
We reached our hotel and were welcomed by monkeys 🐒 🐵 They are all over Matheran and be careful with carrying food infront of them. But generally it was safe with them (5)
My main motive was to rest and not much sight seeing was planned. Went out for a walk around. It’s a small place with one arterial “road” and market. Also saw a #COVID19 care centre. But currently there were no patients there I was told. #Matheran (6)
I went to the Alexander point, 15 mins walk from the hotel. Very serene, though didn’t see sunrise 🌄 as it was bit cloudy, views were still great (lucky to see next day though) #Matheran #Mumbai (7)
Some more images from Alexander point and Rambaug point (8) #Nature #India
Some images from Charlotte lake and Shivaji statue. We had these 2 dogs follow us for about an hour of our walk that day #Matheran #Shivaji (9)
Next morning was a walk to Belvedere point #Matheran The paths are very good, adequate directions on the way. If needed, one can also choose a horse ride (May need to inform them previous day for a morning ride) (10)
Next was a one tree hill point. We also saw an anthill on the way. There was a public toilet too, though locked (probably as not many tourists yet, but was good to see) #Matheran (11)
On the way many bungalows are seen. One of them looks like it belongs to the @RNTata2000 (the first one) (12)
Some images from the market &the way along. It’s a beautiful hill station, if you like a serene place without crowds (at present),fresh air without pollution. We had a wonderful experience &memories. Spoke to locals, lifes been tough since lockdown &they await more tourists (end)
