This week's #WednesdayWritingTips are about SURVIVAL.

When everyone has good news, and you don't...
When you start to consider chucking it in...
How do you survive the low before the next high?
1) Remember the highs
Why is it when we're in a low point, it's so hard to remember the dizzy highs? Praise from a critique partner, good feedback from an agent, or the feeling of writing The End...
Keep a 'Book of Celebration' to record all your mini-wins.

2) Ask why you are doing this
Write it down. If you're struggling to answer, maybe it's time to have a break? If the passion for writing, the desire to create, or the dream to get published is still there, remind yourself WHY you're doing it. And carry on.

3) Take a break
If the frustration gets overwhelming, take a break. Recharge. Focus on a hobby. Spend time exercising. Eat chocolate and bingewatch. Whatever.
Do you miss writing? When the call to write is too strong to ignore, return to it, ready to roll.

4) It's not a race
People are at different stages in their writing journey, even if you seem to be in a similar position at the moment. Only compare you to you. Has YOUR writing improved? Can you see YOUR progress? What do you need to move forward?

5) Try something different
If you're frustrated with your progress, branch out. Sometimes the challenge of trying something slightly different (e.g. age group or genre) can spur you on, fire up your creativity, get you out of a rut and you help survive a low

6) Successful writers keep going
Whatever it takes. And 'success' doesn't just mean publishing deals and agents. It's satisfying your creativity. It's contribution to society. Using your gifts positively. Finding/making these opportunities can really help.
