Getting ready for the @FanTALES_EU Closing Event. I will be livetweeting the project presentation and the keynote by @NybroPetersen, from my office in Frankfurt.
The special challenge of this Closing Event: It takes place live in Kortrijk & online in parallel. The online participants are visible on giant screens in the face-to-face seminar room. The seminar room, on the other hand, is filmed and live-streamed online.
My secret challenge: Livetweeting in as many language as I can.

@fcornillie starts off the Closing Event. Spes saepe fallit - that's why we have to do this Closing Event mostly online (with only a few folks in Kortrijk).
FanTALES takes ideas from the "Digital wilds" into the language classroom: Fanfiction, interactive fiction, multilingualism, plus telecollaboration.

Interactive fiction - nostalgic memories for those of us who remember the 80ies.
Today: An explosion of literary quality in interactive fiction (compared to older "Choose your own adventure" books). Also: Creating IF has never been easier, thanks to great authoring tools.
Multilingual storytelling is relevant for developing plurilingual competences, and can draw on school languages, modern foreign languages, and languages spoken by students or in the community.
Telecollaboration/virtual exchange is all about bringing together learners from different locations, collaborating, and developing intercultural competences on top of linguistic competences.
These four elements combine well - e.g. telecollaboration works well with the kinds of challenges typical of fanfiction, and provides opportunities for multilingual storytelling.
@FanTALES has developed material for secondary school learners, with a focus on learners of Dutch, English, German and Swedish.
Material has been published under open licences, to make adapting it to specific user groups easier. And of course, it is very modular, encouraging mixing and matching.
