When the authorities demanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego engage in false worship, they refused. When Daniel faced a law against praying to the Lord, he still prayed. When the early church was told not to preach, they still proclaimed the gospel.

These examples set our course. When told to bow to idols, refuse. When prayer is outlawed, pray all the more. When told to stay silent about the gospel, speak of it anyway. Follow the way of God's people and be faithful to Him.

Regardless of political structure and who is in power, be faithful to the one, true King. By the Spirit’s enabling we can be respectful of earthly authorities and serve as ambassadors of Christ.
