catra is, without any doubt, one of the most well written characters i’ve ever seen. though, it can be pretty hard to understand her completely, especially if you’re not an abuse survivor or someone who struggles with mental illnesses. as someone who’s both, catra’s character +
+ helped me in many ways, and i’m sure a lot of people will definitely agree with me, and nod at this thread. so who and what is catra to people like me, exactly?

+ that’s because abusers, most of the time, are manipulative as well, and they’re very good at acting like victims, acting like it’s our fault and that we should be thankful. +

+ because she’s afraid to be left alone again, to be betrayed. she has nightmares regarding her most painful traumas, which is very common in people with PTSD. catra represents our deepest thoughts, and reactions, and our need to be confronted, cured, loved. +
+ she also shows us how important our mental health is, how we should take care of it because leaving it untreated can hurt even more. how we should open our hearts and be vulnerable, because it’s worth it.

+ is so important. there will always be someone who cares about us, about you ALL. you may not know it, but there’s at least one person who cares about you and you will NEVER be alone. even if you feel like you are, you’re not.
