#OTD, 1976, Máire Drumm was killed by a loyalist death squad while in her hospital bed. Máire was the Vice President of Sinn Féin and a talented speaker and organiser. She helped working class communities take on the fight against British imperialism.
Drumm organised the large demonstration of women that broke the Falls Curfew, marching straight through the British Army lines in defiance of the occupation.
We remember Drumm as a Republican who was committed to the freedom of her country and people.
"We must take no steps backward, our steps must be onward, for if we don't, the martyrs that died for you, for me, for this country will haunt us forever."
