I’m generally avoiding this site but wanted to drop in with my 2c on the issue of illegal raves in the UK. I get why they’re happening, I get that a lot of young people feel like the government are messing them around but, right now, putting on or attending these parties is
playing right into their fucking hands. I’m a PR man with a good bit of experience and I know for a fact that this is a PR battle we won’t win if we give them ammunition atm. The electronic music scene will be demonised, financial support will be pulled as a result and many
people, including DJs, will be left further up shit creek than they currently are. Whatever your opinions on Covid, the simple fact is these parties will do more damage. This isn’t 1994 with the Criminal Justice Bill where the media could only really blame us for being reprobates
because they didn’t get it, it’s a long way down the road in the history of raves and, now, the media will portray us as unfit to hold licences, to get financial support or to be regarded as part of the ‘arts’ (something which has, so far during Covid, been a lifeline for many
of your favourite venues, promoters and performers). The sad fact, right now, is we need to be patient. If ANYONE, especially DJs, wants to be proactive in pushing for more government help/roadmaps/openings, then please speak to @wearethentia @AFEMORG @WeAreViableUK
- your voice and platforms could be really useful there.
