An observation about the removal of the #directionstree on Monday. It was in a plantation. All the plantation trees around it were untouched. It wasn’t removed in the course of works coming through. It was removed tactically. #djabwurrung
The actual works, so far, are not within a kilometre or even two of the tree. It was at “middle camp”, maybe 3 k from the (untouched) eastern end of the route and there are no roadworks around it. There was as far as I could see no urgency in terms of the roadworks.
Protesters I spoke to today were from regional Victoria. There’s a view that MRPV are removing the disputed trees early to take advantage of the rules on people coming from Melbourne. I have not asked MRPV “why now”? They may have other reasons.
