The fact that we eat onions is crazy. Which human being looked at a bunch of green stalks and then it’s fat bulging root covered in mud and papery layers and thought “I wonder how that tastes”
And then when they cut it open and felt a stinging pain in their eyes that made them weep, they still thought that they should eat it
And then when they actually bit into it and felt the not-so-pleasant tang of the onion (mildly) burn their tongue, they still thought it was perfectly edible. I mean, all the warning signs were literally there!

But bless their perseverance, bc idk what I’d do without my onions
I guess it all really goes to show how much time and how many generations of experimentation and trial and error go into that one meal of yours. The incredible histories behind the food we eat and what goes into our meal reveal amazing things about civilisation and humankind
This thread perfectly encapsulates the beauty of our meals https://twitter.com/etiennefd/status/1320110394153734144
