The @PoliceNG are citizens too. They are victims of the system & must be given an opportunity to present a memoranda on the oppression of the system. We must get to the bottom of the lubricants of the culture of impunity within the Police Institution. Fair is Fair. #EndSARS
Nothing justifies the impunity of the Police but consider the analysis of 2019-2020 budget which clearly ignores training and equipment procurement for the @PoliceNG. N399 Billion is to be spent on recurrent expenses (i.e. payroll) but only N599m on training & paltry N20m...
...on teaching aids (together 0.1% of the recurrent expenses). Of the N16Billion for capital expenditure, only N3.3billion is for security equipment and compared with N10billion for construction before the economic cost of the aftermath of the #EndSARs protest.
There’s been a worrying trend in the little investment in the support of manpower yet we expect the Police to operate effectively & duly in line with its duties. Our policy objective is destined to downskill the @PoliceNG if this is not changed effective immediately.
I respectfully disagree with the President’s position & insistence on executive order being placed above the rule of law cum the consistent disempowerment/emasculation of leadership of the police force running simultaneously with the vandalism of our most critical institution.
Never in the over 90year history of @PoliceNG has it lost so many experienced police officers for so few to be promoted to the detriment of so many Nigerians as it has in the last 4years from 2015-2019. Regime security must never be placed over National security. @SIAF_NG
Today Police officially has 371,800 personnel with 150,000 guarding politicians and VIPs and another 80,000 that exists on payrolls alone. Leaving only 141,800 low moraled officers to protect about 200m people. This is critical and Govt MUST do better.
Working conditions of police officers must be tweaked immediately. Duty tour allowance, special allowances, retirement benefits and career advancement must be re-imagined and meritorious without the interference of politics. We’re hurting society further if these are unsanitized.
The striking force units of the police under the operation Puff Adder are mostly under maintenance. SARS is out, STS & IRT are on probation, leaving CTU and PMF who are mostly on VIP & corporate security duties. So technically you have just the CTU. Think about this.
Anger and civil disturbances have led many to burn down personal residences of police officers from complaints reaching @SIAF_NG. Most police officers are angry, while some are afraid to even wear their uniforms. Criminals are running the streets as we speak.
We all have a bigger task now of showing personal responsibility to restore Law and Order lest we lose the civility of our society. The Police are the Public and the Public are the Police. Security is everybody’s business & we need to ensure we don’t ruin the future of our kids.
It begins with the restoration of order in our various communities, while justice is being served at the @LagosSarsPanel and other judicial panels across Nigeria. Our dead must never die in vain. The criminal justice system must work for all. Let the healing begin. 🙏🏽
This is why we’ve been advocating for #EndSARS since 2016 (shutting down the harmful cultural practices of impunity) & #ReformPoliceNG (the holistic reform of the Police & total security sector reforms in 🇳🇬). This goes beyond the protest. We must #FixSociety & #ReformNigeria
