not to complain about the ygo dub on main again but man. idk how but the dsod dub just straight up felt like an entirely different movie and plot compared to the dsod sub i feel

i have mentioned many a time the various reasons i have a particular Distaste for the dub but man. dsod ended up being no exception from that and i& #39;m a little sad abt it. like some of the dialogue is passable but most of it is like !?!?!? help why did they Write That
it& #39;s wild to me how i ended up with whiplash within the first 10 minutes of the dub version because they completely eradicated the stuff happening with diva at the very start. like they completely changed the dialogue and the tone and therefore made it... irrelevant to the scene
i feel like i sound like a Pretentious Dub Hater and god do i try to find some merit in the dub versions of ygo but it gets harder and harder the more i& #39;m exposed to both the manga and th subbed versions.
to sum it up really i feel liek the original ygo, flaws and all, still generally makes tons of sense when you& #39;re viewing all these scenes for the ways they were MEANT to be written. when the dub steps in and botches the dialogue, the scenes straight up don& #39;t FLOW anymore!!
this thread definitely looks like garbled nonsense and me screaming into the void and it& #39;s just because i am restraining myself from specifically complaining about dub kaiba again bc lord knows i& #39;ve unleashed my wrath abt that enough times on here
i& #39;m sorry!! i tried to give him a chance!! but after seeing how he was originally written and seeing the context set up for him in the manga and sub i just can& #39;t let it slide!!
ygo dub, why oh why did you take my extremely well-written PTSD-coded character with the most sensible context given for his behavior and RUIN IT
i give up im going to complain specifically abt dub kaiba again, this time: DSOD edition
there& #39;s not much i can say without making 500 more scream tweets other than: they did it. they did it again they took the Mental Illness context away and in doing so ruined his character and his motives throughout the whole movie
from the sub& #39;s context, it was the PERFECT sequel to seto& #39;s story in dm, a sequel to his character, an exploration of his motives and how he deals with interpersonal relationships. it was so damn perfect!! it was very in-character and flowed so well
from the sub& #39;s context of seto basically making his trauma a way of life, it was just. *chef& #39;s kiss* god it made so much sense for him to pull the nonsense he pulled in dsod.
and i& #39;m once again traveling down the path of making 500 tweets abt seto& #39;s character so to truly restrain myself i& #39;ll sum it up again:
sub seto: man i sure am traumatized. i sure did lose an abusive figure who used games as a way of controlling me. sure did lose him in a very violent and grim manner. oh what& #39;s that? someone who, in my eyes, is a replacement for that figure? Finally, some Stability in my life!
dub seto: hehe i am Hardcore Gamer Dude. i can& #39;t be defeated, i& #39;m too Good. i must Topple my Enemies to Stroke My Ego. there& #39;s nothing wrong with my state of mental health. i& #39;m just Funny because i& #39;m Hardcore.
15 tweets later, all i want to say is: dub seto Not Good. dub seto Badly Written. dub seto becomes less and less funny the more i realize just how much they botched the character he was meant to be for decades to come
anyway seto has some major c-ptsd and original dsod had many themes revolving around trauma, recovery, decay, an inability to let go, projecting problems onto people, and ultimately coming to terms with it all and also Not coming to terms with it which leads to self-destruction
