This is also where the delusions of the liberal American Sikhs who claim that they made the “community decision” that Sikhs wouldn’t say “we aren’t Muslim” in order to courageously face bigotry head-on fall apart; most racists do not care. They won’t like Sikhs much more.

I’ve had many pleasant interactions with some white RW rednecks/rural folk over shared interests (guns, bikes). They were cordial and spoke nicely, some even knowing I was Sikh. Give it a few beers though, and their rhetoric completely changes.

“Look you’re a nice guy, but I just have to say...” “hey man, minorities like you should be grateful to this country and voting for Trump!” and so on. And any ounce of anakh for your own identity, again as a SIKH (not Muslim) that you show will be perceived to them as a threat

Frankly I could care less about the headlines that sanctimonious liberal Sikhs could run in Slate, HuffPo, etc., about such interactions - but it was a clear sign to me at least, about the outright hostilities felt towards me, however subconsciously, by a big voting bloc for GOP
