you probably noted along this thread that naya was really involved with LGBTQIA+ causes. She played Santana Lopez on the show Glee during 5 years. she’s considered one of the most importants lesbian-characters on Television. But, this just happened because naya make sure to.
In the San Diego Comic-Con in 2011, during the glee panel, the glee writer, Brad Falchuck, said that initially the Brittany and Santana relationship it was something that should be treated like a joke, because the network, Fox, didn’t wanted to do of this a serious thing.
But he said that naya bring their attention to the fans letters and tweets about how important Santana character, and her storyline was for them, so naya and heather morris (who played brittany, her wife) made sure for that relationship happened and not treated like a joke.
Naya wrote a love letter to the LGBTQIA+ community in 2017 for Billboard, saying that “it has been of of the great blessings in her life receive such a love and touching stories as a result of her portrayal of Santana Lopez on Glee”.
Brad Falchuck, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, who created Glee, released an statement after her death talking about how much she was involved on Santana’s storyline.
for the pride month this year, naya used the filter of instagram in her profile to shows her support.
Santana Lopez ended up being considered an LGBTQIA+ icon on television having one of the most important storylines in the history.
how she helped and supported a lot of her friends and co-workers:
