'Why JaMycal Hasty?’

With a limited sample we’ve seen JaMycal Hasty provide an additional spark to an already dangerous rushing attack.

Now with injuries hampering the 49ers top three rushers could Hasty end up earning a larger role moving forward?

Enjoy!
'Lateral to linear transitions'

Shanahan & the 49ers sport one of the most efficient rushing attacks in the NFL, and Hasty has the skill set to take advantage of it.

It starts with his ability to slalom in & out of creases while being able to immediately accelerate thereafter.
'Lateral to linear transitions'

Hasty is able to transfer his weight and slalom upfield while not decelerating.

As a smaller back in terms of stature this is a MUST if you want to be an efficient ball carrier.

Phillip Lindsay does this well when you watch him play.
'Lateral to linear transitions'

We see this again.

Having the capability to shift angles & accelerate upfield is extremely important in Shanahan’s scheme.

This is a big reason why Hasty may just be a hand in glove fit for the 49ers offense moving forward.
'Success during early acceleration'

'Burst’ is often a buzz word used to describe visibly strong tendencies during early acceleration, especially from zero step. (generating power from step 0 to step 1)

Early acceleration (burst) is one of Hasty's athletic strengths.
'Second level tendencies & timing'

On outside zone runs it’s important to have great feel for when to press inside blockers to get through smaller creases.

Hasty does a nice job of this, and displays impressive timing & patience with his second level blocks.
'Schemed touches'

Hasty has quickly developed into a quality option for Shanahan to use within his scheme.

He has the natural, explosive capabilities to be dangerous in space, and the requisite internal clock to thrive in the 49ers offense if given significant opportunity.
'Rest of season outlook'

Hasty could see fairly significant work until Mostert returns off of IR and carve out a niche in this offense even when he gets back.

Chase Edmonds is a stylistically similar back who just had success against their next opponent, the Seattle Seahawks.
