When Reagan got rid of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, it made propaganda operations like Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and later Breitbart possible. The ultimate result of that is the Trump administration and the perilous state of our democracy in this election.

For decades now these bad actors--backed with a huge war chest from the billionaire class and support from right wing "don't think" tanks--have indoctrinated generations of conservatives with a world view that bears little relation to reality.

They managed to transform milquetoast Democrats into evil Stalinists in the eyes of their followers. This reached the height of absurdity with Obama, a centrist and corporate friendly Democrat who was portrayed as a radical leftist who wanted to destroy America.

Once you're convinced that your enemy is evil, unAmerican, and a threat to the country, they can be treated as fundamentally illegitimate.

They aren't "real Americans" so you can, for example, work tirelessly to suppress Democratic voters, try to ensure legitimate votes aren't counted, sabotage the post office to depress mail in votes, and just flagrantly steal elections as we saw in the Georgia governor's race.

You can, in fact, justify anything at all once you've deemed your enemies illegitimate and their every act treasonous. This is the road to fascism and we are well along the way. That's why every decent person must swarm the polls and vote Trump out.

The GOP are using every dirty trick in the book. If it goes to the Supreme, we are fucked because the Handmaiden has been forced through. Votes simply must be too overwhelming to contest.
