2/ which has been at odds with the broader call for detention abolition 3) universal representation in the criminal punishment system has been coupled with the rise in mass incarceration over the last 40+ years 4) lawyers must follow the lead of organizers fighting for abolition
3/ 5) any effort calling for universal representation should ensure that those funds aren't tied to detention centers existing in the area. Ensuring that representation does not reaffirm the need for detention is critical.
