THREAD: The numbers of cases are so high and are steadily rising so lockdown is now inevitable. It didn't need to come to this, but government inaction, compromise, and risk caused this to happen. Even now, the least they could do is to prepare the population. Instead of making
sure people have what they need, can get somewhere safe, can set up support that they require, they say "we don't want to lock down, we don't want to lock down", and so when it does happen people won't be ready. Then will come the compromises. It will be another "lockdown but
many businesses can stay open" or a "lockdown but just for a couple of weeks" or a "lockdown but schools and universities stay open without testing, even though they are the main drivers of infection." It will without doubt be compromised. And then they will use the failure that
they engineer to say that lockdowns are futile and don't work. They won't use the time to get test, track, trace, isolate and support going. They won't want to find every case. They will still let sick people go back to infect their households. Every day when I see how many
people are sick and dying it is like a punch to the stomach. Every day all this needless suffering and death.

The truth is that this country - and no other country - is going anywhere without the virus getting under control. Without that there is no economic recovery either.
The more they try to keep the economy open, the worse the economy actually gets. Already since the summer some cities have had 3 months of restrictions. But think about this: if we all took 2.5 months of proper restrictions then we would be pretty much free of this virus.
This has been proven over and over again. The vast majority of the population support shorter, sharper interventions more than this dragged out bullshit. But to start with it would mean the government committing to finding every case and cutting off transmission. We have learnt
now that there is no such thing as "managing" the virus. It was a spurious thought to start with. The only reason we didn't do what China or South Korea did is because the British government is too racist to believe that East Asians could get something right.
