Global Election Systems’ largest shareholder & Sr. VP was a convicted embezzler whose crimes involved sophisticated computer tampering. It changed its name 2 Diebold in 02 when it was acquired by Diebold, Inc. whose CEO was Bush donor. GA used Diebold touchscreens from 02-2019.1/
A lawsuit filed by @CoalitionGoodGv persuaded a federal court to rule that Georgia’s Diebold touchscreens were unconstitutionally insecure. I discuss all of this in my Medium piece w/ links. 2/ https://link.medium.com/oo3jMJPLVab
Georgia was thus forced to replace its touchscreens with machines that used “paper.” But not all paper is created equal in the elections context. Whereas most experts recommend #handmarkedpaperballots for most voters, GA chose touchscreens that mark ur ballot for u. 3/
Georgia’s new Dominion touchscreens (Diebold is out of business) are supplied by Dominion. They mark votes on paper for the voters. The printouts include both human readable text & a QR code. The QR code is the only part counted as ur vote, even in the event of a recount. 4/
Humans can’t read QR code’s, so Georgia’s new voting system is not transparent. @GASecofState says not to worry bc they will use the human readable text portion to conduct audits. Except they plan to audit only 1 race (chosen by him, not at random) every 2 years. What a scam. 5/
Georgia’s 2002 election—it’s first using touchscreens—resulted in several poll-defying wins, one of which helped Republicans take control of the US senate. The Republican victor was hand picked by Karl Rove. 6/
A Diebold whistleblower later said the company president had secretly installed uncertified software patches on all voting machines in certain Georgia counties soon before the 2002 election in Georgia. 7/
Which is just one reason why I was so alarmed by Georgia’s 11th hour installation of a software update to all of its voting machines earlier this month. Although GA managed to get a rushed EAC certification, the EAC conducts no penetration testing. 8/
Based on this report by @milesobrien, it seems the software “update” was needed bc GA’s new touchscreens were intermittently dropping senatorial candidates, which is alarming in itself. 10/
11/ Georgia is the only state with two senate seats on the ballot this year, & officials will certify outcomes as “legitimate” based on non-transparent QR codes. Think about that.
