Yeah, by all means create more realistic BL that more accurately represents real life gay experiences, but I hope this doesn't lead to misogyny. Also don't dismiss why the element of fantasy in BL is so appealing to people but particularly to women. https://twitter.com/likeadisco_/status/1321025277221220352
Ah well, but I guess it's not really my place to opine about Thai BL or PH BL since I don't really watch either. I'm just gonna enjoy myself in my own corner of danmei fandom. But this made me think that if I were articulate enough I would write an essay on Chinese BL
and how its leaning towards more fantastical stories and themes make it unique as a BL genre. And due to the heightened emotional stakes, danmei gets to provide the soapy, epic, idealised romances that we enjoy. Despite the censorship danmei is still unabashedly BL
and That's Good actually partially due to these criteria. So we get BL with longform stories with complex characters and themes. (so far danmei hasn't been reclaimed by queer men, if anything it's being claimed by capitalism which is another can of worms) https://twitter.com/IneluctableM/status/1214062262530576384?s=20
