We argue that the economists of the future should receive a critical, pluralist, interdisciplinary and applied training. This report demonstrates how economics courses currently fall short of this vision and fail to prepare economics graduates to understand the crises we face.
From this point forward, it is vital that the discipline better applies itself to the real world, is honest about bias and learns from other subjects and schools of thought to better equip its graduates for a world that is so reliant upon its economists.
This approach, according to survey responses from 920 economics students and graduates (71.9% of which have no affiliation to Rethinking Economics), would have widespread support both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. #rethinkecon #economics
