Having a community is a moat for any business. But it's hard to build one with ZERO skills.
That's what I'm doing(trying). I use Twitter to learn from people much smarter than me.
Here are the notes I made while learning from @NoeleFlowers who is leading a community @teachable

Here's the newsletter I made my notes from https://www.noeleflowers.com/post/how-to-elevate-the-quality-of-engagement-in-your-online-community
One of the common fears of community managers is lack of engagement. It's like that feeling you get 15 minutes before the party starts; what if nobody will show up?
Notes: I started a community recently. I can relate to this very much

On quantity vs quality
Too often community leaders prioritise the quantity of engagement vs quality of engagement. The result is a community that are at best vague and irrelevant.
Notes: More members as an easy patch? Unfortunately, that never works

Do what you expect to be done
Model the type of content you want to see, don't expect great posts magically appear in your community.
Find out what unique expertise each of your members have and reach out to them. Proactively ask and encourage them to share their best work.

On standards and values
Define both standards and values.
Taking the time to define your community values will give you and your members a greater understanding of the âhigher purposeâ of your community, and give you something in common to strive for.

Make changes
Noele made an audit of her community to analyse topics, sentiment, engagement.
She realised that the members were using the community not as she intended to. She took it has her failure and completely revamped her community offering.
Notes: Long term thinking!!!

On rewarding
Reward your best contributors intrinsically and extrinsically.
Intrinsic
⢠shoutout
⢠nice comment
⢠virtual high five
Extrinsic
⢠swag
⢠helping a member in her/his career or business in some way
Me: I like to be rewarded for my effort. Everybody does.

Remind, redirect and remove
Your members will tend to share what other share:
⢠remind them about the purpose
⢠bring them into the vision of what your community strives to be
⢠redirect the conversations clean-up if it's necessary
Me: It's my task to keep the purpose.
