Written by an Indian-American journo @pahwa_nitish, which shouldn't surprise us. I used to get angry about this stuff (he didn't even bother calling the people involved), but then I had the following realization: There will always be people like Nitish who wear their https://twitter.com/aseemrshukla/status/1321073203582742530
identity lightly, for whom desi-ness is just another chip to play at the table of American meritocracy. Such people won't last. They are not interested in understanding or truth, and have very short shelf-lives as a result. Being on twitter, I've had the privilege of meeting
so many peers who work day jobs and yet still spend their evenings researching, writing and creating not because they're angling for a "staff writer" gig at a washed-up pub like Slate, but because they're curious and just want to understand who they are and where they come from.
The future belongs to them, to us. Let the Nitishes of the world win the coveted promotions and "prestigious" fellowships. We're aiming for a greater prize.
