A THREAD with FOOTAGE about the performance of our left winger on Saturday. So many saying he was our worst player. I’ve studied the game back and i agree, it was a shocking performance. I’ll show some examples of all the things said about him including, can’t beat his man, can’t
or won’t cross it, poor decision making, not strong enough, poor touch, poor passing and even passing sideways or backwards too often. In fact the performance was so bad I can’t fit it all on a thread. In the first half there were a few bad moments but in the second half it
went rapidly down hill. I’ve concentrated on the second half to fit most things in, and since it is the worst of the two halves. The first example is of him taking a man on and the defender stopping him far too easily, like candy off a baby.
The second clip shows him again trying beat a man, or at least tease him a little while holding on to the ball. The defender simply steps in and takes the ball off him far too easily. As people are saying, he just doesn’t look strong enough.
People say he can’t control it well, here it drops to him and his first touch isn’t good enough. When a ball drops from the air to you in the premier league you HAVE to realise that opponents will converge on you hoping for a loose touch. You HAVE to concentrate and get it right.
This is poor decision making or lack of intelligence which is so often levelled at him. He does well with his touch this time but should feed it across the box. He decided to go alone but fails to shake off his man and his shot is straight at him and powder puff. Very poor.
The still shows the point where a decent winger would feed it across. Cavani is desperate for the ball to fed in front of him and will be fuming. Also, a ball in front of him and his marker is a defenders nightmare. The defender there will have been so relieved it didn’t come
Poor decision again here. If your team is under pressure and the ball drops to you on the edge of your own box, if there isn’t a simple pass on just clear it up field. DO NOT take someone on, get’s away with this, next time it could end in disaster.
The last couple of seconds and perhaps he should just put this ball in the box. It’s not a terrible angle to cross from, better if you can be closer in yes, but little chance of the pass still being on when he has to turn full circle before passing it.
Another thing that happened in the second half was that Reece James came into the game as an attacking threat. In the first half he hardly had a look in. This cross might easily end up in the back of our net on another day.
Another good position and decent cross by James. For some reason their wing back offered more threat than our winger in the second half. It’s a good sign here that Cavani realises we’re not defending with enough behind the ball and races back, NOT a good sign for the team though.
Not entirely the wingers fault here, he’s back defending, but Utd players need to be more aware. It’s too easy for Chelsea and yet another dangerous ball in by Reece James. It’s a shambles at this stage, it’s a wingers job to ensure they don’t get an overload here really though.
James here just ambles in at the back of the box completely unmarked. It’s only luck that he doesn’t connect well with the ball. It still results in a corner though and the pressure is on us.
Starts with our winger and their wing back, James, two yards apart. James only jogs forward. Shaw has to rush to get in defensive line, which gives a clue to the gentle pace that James moves forward. It wouldn’t be difficult to track him. Luckily Fred’s there to block his shot.
Some people even said our left winger on Saturday should never play for Utd again. I thought that was a little harsh, but having watched the second half again, maybe they’ve got a point.
