when harry said he was criticised on hs1 for not having enough radio songs i don’t think he really cared as long as he was making music that were important to harry styles, yet the label picked up on it and told him we need more radio songs. we’ve had 5 for fine line yet only 2++
on hs1. they made harry a brand rather than harry styles. as soon as harry posted those 3 white squares that was it. eventually he became more and more distant bc for the label it’s about the money not harry’s relationship with fans. his name has been pumped into the media++
more and more lately and i’m not complaining that he’s become a household name and i’m incredibly proud of his success it’s just i think we’ve lost touch with him bc he’s a trade mark now not a person it’s harry styles ™ not harry styles.
he started off hs1 in small venues bc he said he likes it when he can connect with fans yet his shows became bigger and bigger and his name was put everywhere.
when hs1 came out there was a lot of speculation with the songs and who they were about. carolina was given a narrative and only angel fed into his womaniser image. two ghosts was speculated to be about taylor and that gave the media a lot to talk about but harry decided it
but the other songs were barely talked about the gp had absolutely no idea who those songs were about and they didn’t have a story so they couldn’t be talked about in the media hence the gp not really talking abt his about except for sott bc it was his debut
however with fine line we have this whole hamille story and how “sad” he was surrounding the whole “break up” camille took centre stage when it came to taking about the album and pretty much every song was linked to her bc the album was “for” camille (it’s definitely not++
this is just what the gp see and are told) this meant the album could be talked about more in the media bc instead of it just being one song about a woman it was the whole album. the whole idea of it being about camille was pushed so much
yet in hs1 pretty much all the songs weren’t talked about and weren’t given a narrative which meant you couldn’t sell a story with the song and it then becomes irrelevant with the gp. they exact same thing happened with haylor, the timings of everything sold both albums
harry fans were encouraged to buy taylor’s album bc it might talk about harry and one directions album was the same. i just think the biggest thing is if i was to ask a member of the public who fine line was about they’d say his ex or camille yet if i asked about
hs1 i don’t think they’d have an answer except two ghosts and taylor. songs without stories don’t sell with the public. WE know the story and meaning behind his songs but that story can’t be sold to the public and we all know why.
i’m basically trying to say his second album was given this big story for the media to make it appeal to the gp more and he made a lot more radio songs
that was longer than i expected i just thought it needed to be said/explained
