We asked officials in every state about their expectations for counting votes on election night (and after) and made a big old table:

Some things we found:
• At this point, only 8 states can guess they'll have at least 98% of unofficial results reported by noon on Wed.

• N.Y., R.I. and Alaska will not report any mail votes on election night

2/4
• 22 states + D.C. will still be accepting postmarked ballots after Election Day

• In at least 22 states, voters who request a mail ballot but decide to vote in person instead may have to cast a provisional ballot, which could increase the number of votes counted later

3/4
• Many states release certain types of ballots (mail, Election Day) in a specific order, which could make initial results look relatively stronger for Biden or Trump. And before all mail ballots are in, there could be misleadingly positive results for Trump in some states
