@LornaBogue is a dear friend I was her campaign manger for the 2016 election. I thought that she would lead @greenparty_ie in the future. The fact the party is losing people like her @saoirse_mchugh, & @sineadmercier is a sign of just how badly we have lost our way already. 1/17 https://twitter.com/irishexaminer/status/1321056054831009792
The @greenparty_ie leadership is failing to listen to the people who got it where it is. The weak climate bill, the forestry bill attempting to restrict the right of appeal against forestry licences and the mother and baby homes farce are a concerning trend. 2/17
For the moment I will stay a member of the party for the sole reason that none of the other parties take climate change seriously. However, a serious step up in competence is required from @EamonRyan and the rest of the PP. 3/17
The party & @EamonRyan need to listen carefully to the Environmental NGOs & Prof. John Sweeney about the weaknesses in the climate bill and fix them. @rodericogorman needs to bring forward legislation quickly to address the mother and baby homes issues in a sensitive manner. 4/17
@pippa_hackett needs to introduce a new model of forestry. That means no more planting of Stika Spruce and no more planting of trees in peatlands. 5/17
Only addressing these issues urgently will stop the rot and the hemorrhaging of members. @EamonRyan needs to reach out to those who have left and find out why and try and fix any problems. Failure to address this issues will lead to the party's wipeout at the next GE. 8/17
The people who have left the party in recent weeks apart from those already mentioned include the amazing @taragilsenan, @tiarnenm and @ROBJON3S they were the future of the party. The people who manged campaigns knocked on & doors wrote policy. They kept the party alive 9/17
We as a party should be seriously concerned to lose such able people. @greenparty_ie must do more to try and show seriousness on climate and social justice only that way can we hope to get some of these people back or prevent more leaving. 10/17
For the moment I am staying in @greenparty_ie and @JTG_ie but if Ministers continue to listen to civil servants instead of ENGOs on climate then the party is doomed and I will then have to consider leaving this party. 11/17
I want this government to work and to be wrong in my views. I want it to work but I fear our Ministers have been totally captured by their civil servants and have stopped listening to other voices. 12/17
This will lead to ineffective results like a crap climate law if Ministers are unwilling to listen to expertise. This will lead to ineffective reform of direct provision instead of its end unless civil servants are faced down when they resist change. 13/17
The role of a Minister is to take decisions having considered all the advice, not blindly do who their civil servants tell them. @rodericogorman a lecturer in EU knows that EU law is supreme and GDPR trumps domestic law but still peddled the contrary line in the last week. 14/17
This means either he knew he was wrong but plowed ahead with the AG's line anyway or an important part of the AGs advice was excluded from explanation given to the public on the mother and baby homes issue. 15/17
As a lawyer I respect @rodericogorman enough to know he knows EU law so I remain mystified as to why the events of the last week took place as they did. If further explanation is required give don't repeat nonsense lines. 15/17
@rodericogorman needs to be able to ring up the AG and say "this advice is bats get someone to have another look at it pronto." Instead he trotted out a line he must have known was going to seem like nonsense to every lawyer in the country. 16/17
This is why I believe our Ministers have been captured by their civil servants. I may be wrong and nothing would please me more to be proved wrong on this. @rodericogorman, @EamonRyan, @cathmartingreen please prove me wrong, turn this disastrous start around! Please! 17/17
