American medical authorities started by conducting tests on prisoners at a military prison in Boston Harbor. The prisoners were promised release if they survived the series of tests that would follow:

First, the test subjects would be injected with infected lung tissue taken from people who had died from the Spanish flu. Next they would be sprayed in the mouth, nose and eyes with aerosols laced with the flu virus

If the subjects did not die or get ill the next step would be to swab their throats with fluid from the throats of the sick & dying. If they still failed to contract the virus, they would then be required to sit open-mouthed while a gravely ill patient coughed into their faces.

After being briefed about these details, 300 men volunteered and the doctors picked 62 to work on. The doctors then ran the whole battery of tests on the 62. Not a single one of them contracted the flu, only one showed symptoms, a runny nose. One ward doctor did die, though

Some people claim that this happened because the flu might have passed through the prison weeks before hence the prisoners had developed immunity...

However, had the flu been at the prison at any point, the ward doctor would have been one of the first ones to get it while treating and examining patients, and would have died then. Also, this flu killed 20% of the infected, so 20% prisoners would have died when it was there

Anyway there was never a vaccine for Spanish Flu, it just went away. Flu viruses frequently burst on to the scene, spread and then simply go away, Spanish Flu, Swine Flu (2009), Avian Flu (SARS 1997 & 2003), SARS (2012) came and disappeared with no vaccine

In fact the 2009 SARS outbreak disappeared so quickly that vaccine developers did not have time to finish making a vaccine, but to recoup costs they gave it people who did not need it, with devastating consequences for many. The EU parliament launched an investigation into WHO

The European parliament had this to say about the rushed vaccines: "unnecessarily millions of healthy people are exposed to the risk of poorly tested vaccines, for a flu strain that is vastly less harmful than all previous flu epidemics"
