Our new infographics, produced in partnership with @GlobalSexWork, examine the human rights violations behind ‘End Demand’ laws. Although the negative effects of these laws are well documented, they continue to be presented as a progressive response to trafficking and sex work.
‘End Demand’ laws have serious repercussions for sex workers in the areas of policing, access to services, safety at work, migration, trafficking and stigma. View the full set of infographics here: https://www.iwraw-ap.org/resources/the-human-rights-violations-behind-end-demand-laws/
In their engagements with the #CEDAW Committee, sex workers from around the world have made enormous efforts to highlight the negative impact of ‘End Demand’ on their own lives. http://www.nswp.org/resource/smart-guide-cedaw
This week, the #CEDAW Committee will adopt a General Recommendation on trafficking in women and girls in the context of global migration. We hope it will reflect the lived realities of sex workers and contribute to ending the harm caused by ‘End Demand’.
An 'End Demand' approach in the #CEDAW Committee’s General Recommendation on trafficking would legitimise rights violations against sex workers, which is antithetical to the spirit of CEDAW. The FACT Manifesto offers a rights-based alternative: https://www.iwraw-ap.org/fact/
