I didn’t watch the election returns in 2016 because I just knew he would win. I cried the next morning (the 1st of ~2 weeks of tears), saying to hubs ‘I live in a country that hates me’ - not just me, but anyone who isn’t CIS, straight, white, male, & Christian.
After the election, I was told by many male colleagues not to be alarmist (particularly frustrating as I am a PoliSci PhD, surrounded by people who should know better). One colleague condescendingly joked about his wife going to the women’s march in DC to ‘fix things’.
Along with BIPOC, I have worried, warned, and resisted for the past four years. Yesterday, a lot of the fears that crystalized for me w/the GOP convention of 2016 came to fruition - essentially inevitable since RBG’s passing (another night that brought tears).
There’s really no grand point I am trying to make with this thread. Just expressing a particular sadness that began in 2016 and continued fear for the future of my country.
