I hid my birthday from people because I genuinely hate birthday celebrations and surprise party. I prefer a more intimate setting where those wishing you a happy birthday does so because they really meant it and not just for the sake of it
Time I spent abroad is like the best part because people don’t really know when is my birthday so I get to celebrate it in peace. The first time I did it, I bought my favourite meal, eat on my own while watching my favourite show on tv. You say sad, I say rad!
And then the latest one was in Russia where my roommate calmly presented me with a gift. No fuss, no party. She loves birthdays but she respects me enough to know I wouldn’t want any fuss over it (I swear I love that girl so much).
But I should note that maybe my privileged upbringing made me immune I guess to the joy of birthdays. I mean gifts were cool when you’re a kid and have no access to your own bank account. Like now, I could get what I want or just ask my parents for things. (Cont.)
I am lucky enough that I don’t have to wait for special occasions to get what I want. But I guess everyone has the same right to celebrate (or not) however they want.

Inspired by a tweet from @zahinadib I don’t know who is it about but it made me wanna tweet this thread 😂
