The breakdown
: We expect to move up & down Covid levels for the remainder of the academic year, however as 3rd level education and lab-based research are priorities for the Irish government, we will operate irrespective of restriction levels.

We’ve operated at the highest standard of Covid restrictions from the beginning (masks, distancing etc.
)
Have our own internal testing, contact tracing and isolation system for students. Numbers from this will be communicated weekly by Profs Cathal Kelly & Hannah McGee.

Mercer website has a dedicated section with Covid information for students with many different scenarios and what to do - please have a look at this content
http://mercersmedicalcentre.com/rcsi-students/covid

Mercer also has a form to fill in if you have symptoms of Covid-19 to organise testing - isolate until you are tested and get results

Please continue to reduce social contacts - only close contacts should be those you live with, everyone else should be casual contacts

See this as an opportunity for personal growth, focus not on what cannot be done during current restrictions, but what can

SPGS will work with all postgrads to ensure we can finish our projects as originally intended or with minimal delays

Q: Desk-based researcher return to RCSI
A: It can be facilitated for desk-based researchers to come on campus when essential to access databases etc, however cannot yet say when they will have a full return to RCSI

At the end of this academic year RCSI will reflect on how the university has run with Covid and determine whether this can be improved for the next academic year, should we still be living with Covid
Q: When things are normal again, can researchers continue to work remotely where appropriate?
A: Need to discuss with your own PI, factoring in your mental health and how working from home can impact this

Finally, RCSI hope people will decide not to travel over the Christmas holidays, need to inform the college of any travel plans by the end of November

As hard as it is, this will eventually pass, and we need to focus on staying vigilant, but also positive in the mean time
