Before you demand changes to how police do police work, please, please ask yourself whether you actually understand the job, or whether you understand how the job works on TV. Argue from a standpoint of substance, not Starsky & Hutch. http://nselby.github.io/Are-You-Certain/ :
Anyone dying is a tragedy. Police cannot respond with non-deadly force to an attack with a deadly weapon.

A gun cannot be used as non-deadly force. Shooting in the leg can be deadly (Google. "femoral artery").

A TASER often - OFTEN - fails to immobilize an attacker.
I say these things because of comments in Philadelphia after the tragic shooting of a knife-wielding suspect. When Joe Biden states that "de-escalation" is to "shoot 'em in the leg" it matters every bit as much as when President Trump says that testing leads to a COVID spike.
