If Irish media insist on giving this "herd immunity" guy a platform in the interests of balance, there should be fact checking at the bottom of his articles because some of his claims are stupidly misleading.

Quote:
"The HSE published (December 2018) the recorded data which showed a Flu mortality (CFR) of 2.14 per cent; that is almost 10-fold higher than Covid-19. Undoubtedly, this is an overestimate but there was a vaccine"
Gonna file this under "completely misleading bullshit".

2018 Flu season:
Notified cases: 11,889
Notified deaths: 255
CFR: 2.14%
Dr. Feeley is then saying this Flu CFR is 10-fold higher than Covid-19 fatality rate.
Interesting argument, and by interesting, I mean embarrassing sleight of hand trickery.

He isn& #39;t comparing the 2018 Flu season CFR in Ireland to the 2020 Covid19 CFR in Ireland to get the "10-fold higher CFR for Flu than Covid".
He& #39;s taking an apple and comparing it to a chimpanzee, which isn& #39;t a fruit.
Covid19:
Cases: 58,067
Deaths: 1,885
CFR: 3.24%

Covid19:
Cases: 58,067
Deaths: 1,885

What he is doing is taking a WHO estimate of global Covid19 cases and comparing the notified CFR of Flu in 2018 to a theoretical IFR estimate of Covid19 in 2020.
That is misleading BS and saying "it& #39;s an overestimate" doesn& #39;t change that the construct of the sentence.

Tests completed in Ireland:
Covid19, 2020: 1,538,215
Influenza, 2018: 17,692
Slight difference of 1.5 million tests.
Reason the CFR was so high in 2018 Flu season is because countries do not test for Influenza at scale, as GP& #39;s and hospitals don& #39;t find it critical information.

If a patient presents in a&e in severe respiratory distress, such as pneumonia or ARDS, no doctor has "Flu" at the top of their mind.
It& #39;s not as clinically useful to know if Influenza or rhinovirus or adenovirus was the underlying virus that led to pneumonia.
It& #39;s not as clinically useful to know if Influenza or rhinovirus or adenovirus was the underlying virus that led to pneumonia.
So when Feeley says the CFR was "almost 10-times higher in 2018 for Flu", he is:
a) Taking the fact we don& #39;t test for Flu and manipulating it.
b) Comparing a CFR to an IFR, which are completely different things.

It is universally accepted the fatality rate for Covid19 is massively higher than Influenza.
I feel we don& #39;t need to hear from these type of guys but if others want to hear from him, no problem.
At least counter his claims and don& #39;t leave it to me to do it on Twitter.

Europe is under the pump in a big way.
Hospitals and ICU& #39;s are filling up rapidly, in Belgium, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Switzerland, Italy and many others.
At current rates, more will die in Europe this Winter Flu season (Oct-Mar) than died in Spring.
