Import duties & taxes applicable on importation of the “PlayStation 5” (PS5) gaming console.

[A THREAD]
Before we start, a quick reminder that our “XBox” console lovers have not been left out at all.

This thread applies to the new “XBox Series X” gaming console as well.

Upon importation, because the PS5 gaming console is not exempt from import duties,

- import duty at the rate of 20% will apply.

(2/8)
It doesn’t end there.

- VAT at the rate of 12.5%;

- National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) at the rate of 2.5%; and

- GETFund Levy at the rate of 2.5%

will then follow.

These are computed on the value of the PS5 console plus the duties.

Next, because the PS5 console is being imported from outside the ECOWAS and African Union (AU) region, you should also be expecting to pay

- 0.5% ECOWAS Levy; and

- 0.2% AU Import Levy

(4/8)
Then we come to the other "possible" fees and charges (may vary)

- a 1% processing fee
- a GCNet Charge of 0.4%
- EXIM Levy of 0.75%
- DIC Fee of 1%
- 1% Income Tax Deposit (if you don't have a valid Tax Clearance Certificate)

(5/8)
Just when you thought you were done, the 2% Special Import Levy (SIL) also hits you.

Note: The SIL is expected to be phased out by December 2024

(6/8)
So there we have it (at a high level).

- The reality at the port may vary slightly, but just so you have a fair idea that...

- Your $499.99 PS5 console won’t cost you exactly the Ghana Cedi equivalent should you decide to buy from your favourite console shop in Ghana

Happy gaming everyone!

Now let’s resume the console wars:
