A little thread on how the Press reacts when the PM is fighting on several fronts....

The Mail, Times and Guardian focus on lockdown revolt among "Red Wall" MPs...
(1/?)
The loyal Express and Telegraph do a bit of "look over there" on vaccines.
But the Telegraph also feels bound to report the Tory revolt at the bottom of the page and comes up with a solution to the free school meals row. The Express covers both of those inside...

For the pops, there's still only one story that matters: hungry kids

(3/?)
Unless you're the Sun. In the Sun what matters to children is not having a decent meal, but the ability or otherwise to go out and harass people for sweets on Saturday night...
(4?)
The story runs "in full" on pages 4-5, in which we are told that "killjoy town hall bosses" (as opposed to the government that imposed the restrictions) who are stopping hallowe'en outings in Tier 3 areas...
(5/)
The first mention of the school meals row comes in a leader on page 10, which is, to say the least, a little confusing.
"We know it will have been difficult for the Govt to change its stance". Has it?
But the conclusion is comforting..."Boris is right"...

Ah, all becomes clear on pages 12-13 - six pages on from the covid spread with nothing earlier to point to it.
The PM has done a U-turn. Hurrah for everyone: Rashford, great Brits stepping up to the plate, and - of course - Johnson. Except he's done nothing yet but "think".
(7/)
There was a time when the Daily Star would run Hallowe'en on its front while the Sun got to the heart of the issue of the day.
These days the roles are reversed.
(8/)
Where the Sun has tackled the meals row, it has been to praise Rashford and ordinary people, not to hold the PM to account.

The Star is outshining the Sun, day in, day out, a week ago and already there are more examples. The evidence grows daily

PS: apologies to @theipaper. It should have been in the first tweet with the lockdown rebels.

Have a nice day.
