Artist development has three problems in Nigeria;

1. Ignorance
2. Impatience
3. Assumption

The developer and the artist know fuck all about what is required, both of them think it's about generating rhythm to lamba.

They don't know shit about ethic, tailored vocals...

... Proof of work ethic, the power of a base and experimentation required for a stan base.

Assumption: In the developer's head, if they can sing, they can blow. Well, nope. Of the two artists that blow every year, there are 100 others who continue to struggle.

Impatience: While most people aren't knowledgeable enough to understand that they're being impatient, a lot of developers kill themselves.

They assume that the disjointed nature of the Nigerian industry means anything can happen. While that's compelling, it's problematic.

Alaye, disjointed nature nor mean say your undercooked artist go blow.

Everyone wants to hit it all at once because some outliers did it. You can't base your entire model and thought process on outliers because they end up being the biggest acts.

And guess what, some of those 'outliers' had to go through intentional/unintentional artist development. People like Wizkid, Rema and Burna Boy did it with the help of labels.

Others like Tiwa Savage, Fireboy, Davido and so forth learned it by grinding hard and putting in work..

... On their own for years.

Big Sean met Kanye when he was 17, he signed his contract at 20 and released his debut at 23.

Before Jonas Brothers were signed, the scout who found them put them through rigorous training to learn instruments because they were gonna be rockstars.

The solution: There is no solution. As long as everyone believes that any label owner with money can make an artist blow, we will always have this problem.

It's just for label owners who recognize the problem to trust developers who understand talent and how to nurture it.

It's also important that those developers know how to gauge talent.
