Just received a pass from a VC you really liked?

What to do?

5 ways to keep the conversation going:
1) Send a reply

Probably the most obvious, but still underrated action you can take is to send a response back.

Given that most people don't, it is a great low effort way to make a good lasting impression.
2) Be honest...

In your reply, if you wanted to work with that VC, tell them so and why.

Building relationships is all about figuring out how you fit together. Stating why you liked them is a good way to continue forming that bond.
3) ...and nice

When founders take a rejection in a good way it sends the signal that they are confident enough in what they are building and don't need someone else's endorsement to keep pushing.

Since VCs bet on people in the long-term this is always an attractive trait.
4) Reach out again...

If the VC ends the email saying that they are happy to reconnect again what it really means is that -> they are happy to reconnect again!

So just do it.
5) ...with a tailored update

During your last conversation maybe you circled in on a few areas.

When you reconnect bring up these areas, and the progress, first.

It will create a higher sense of personalisation and make for a good starting point for your next call!
+ Getting rejections is not easy, especially when you are simultaneously building a company.

But if you end things on a good note you will turn the "not now" into what it really is -> a good starting point for your next conversation.
