A thread of ressources to watch and learn about Beach Volleyball:
As a beach volleyball player and fan, I’ve gathered some good content and knowledge about the game through the years so I’d like to share some for people who want to get started and don’t know where to look.
First off if you want to know the rules of the game you can use the official rulebook of FIVB, though this is very wordy and boring and you might want to learn on the job: https://www.fivb.org/EN/Refereeing-Rules/Documents/FIVB-BeachVolleyball_Rules_2017-2020-EN-v05.pdf
Speaking of FIVB, their official website is a goldmine. Wikipedia also provides solid information but here you have everything abt upcoming events, rankings, players, careers. The « tools » tab in this provides great details on technical matters too: https://www.fivb.com/en/beachvolleyball
Another common thing you’d look for when starting a sport is a community, and while reddit does have a sub for beach vball, the r/volleyball is better overall and has a larger community with ppl of varying experience and from all around the world: https://www.reddit.com/r/volleyball/
Now let’s get into the biggest chunk of this thread: Youtube. While reading about beach is interesting and data can be very useful, nothing compares to seeing the real deal and hearing from the very best players themselves.
First off, the best channel for anything beach volleyball related: Beach Volleyball World. It provides broadcasts on a regular basis for most tournaments and has a lot of highlights and replays for both men and women ! You’ll never be out of content: https://www.youtube.com/c/BeachVolleyballWorld
A great channel to learn how to play from basics to advanced techniques is this one created by a professional duo: The McKibbin Brothers. They are great with explanations and often have guests that are among the very best in what they do: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC72N-8kakvmDbsLMvOf9Kxg
This channel is held by the #1 ranked duo in the world, Anders Mol and Christian Sørum. It’s called Beachvolley Vikings and it has very varied content from vlogs to game highlights: https://www.youtube.com/c/BeachvolleyVikings
There are obviously many more pages on social media and websites that could be shared but those are the ones I use on a regular basis. But if you feel like I should’ve added anything, feel free to drop your suggestions below this thread !
And of course a reminder that nothing beats first hand experience, so go play ! Don’t be afraid to ask random people to pair with you because it’s what everyone does in beach. All you need is to give it a try and see how it goes ! Of course you can look up for courts near you.
I’ll probably add to this from time to time and maybe go into detail on some points !
