Twitter. I'm struggling yet very curious. For those of us who are disabled. Those of us who have experienced medical trauma. Those of us who have had EMGs. I'm going to ask a couple of polls. #DisabilityTwitter, will you RT me? Share encouraging words or your truth. Here we go 1/
TW: Medical Trauma

First off, when did you learn the definition of medical trauma?

@RealCedricDark @DrSanchezGlz @sachamcbainphd @jociscott15 @TedBonar @Dr_RileyL, feel free to provide your input and follow this poll. I wish I could have made your panel this month. 2/
Have you ever experienced medical trauma?

For all who say yes, I am sorry to hear about your experience. Yet, thank you for your response and helping me feel less alone in this painful moment. 3/
If you have had an EMG, would you describe the experience as traumatic? 4/
If you were told in the beginning that you could have withdrawn your consent if the EMG became too painful, would you have said no or stop during the procedure?

I know that learning I could have said no from my pain psychologist was this painful moment of awareness 5/
If you were/are a student in higher education, did you have support from your college as you recovered from your medical trauma?

I know my answer and it just makes it harder to have to advocate for medical trauma awareness/support on campus. It hurts to know it isn't here. 6/
I have a few questions for you, #MedTwitter.

In medical school, do you learn about medical trauma or medical PTSD?

@_HarryPaul_, @BrittGratreak, @frias_daphne, @Okanlami and #DisabledDocs, please RT me. 7/
If you are in neurology and have performed EMGs, have you had an EMG yourself?

I think that cops during their training with a taser are tased, I wonder if a similar thing happens in neurology... 8/
Have you ever handed out a patient information brochure on medical trauma to a patient before an EMG or upon diagnosis with a chronic disability? 9/
For anyone who has ever been to a doctor, have you ever seen a patient education brochure on medical trauma? 10/
For all of your who have engaged with my poll, thank you! Please RT and encourage others to reply. I feel like medical trauma is not spoken about enough. The silence gives medical trauma a power that it doesn't deserve.

Please continue to break the silence with me 11/
Is there anything that I should have asked and didn't?

Please share your question and I will answer and/or RT. 12/
To @RealCedricDark @DrSanchezGlz @sachamcbainphd @jociscott15 @TedBonar @Dr_RileyL @APADiv22 and #PsychTwitter:

Is there anything that you would like to share to build awareness of medical trauma.

How do you define medical trauma? 13/
If you have experienced medical trauma, I am here to listen if you want to share your story.

I absolute respect if you don't want to.

Here is my story from @DisInHigherEd 14/
