Breaking my never-tweeter status, but I have to explicitly comment on the transmisogyny and violence I have watched transpire in Upstate SC Democratic Socialists of America over the past three days. This is unacceptable.
It is absolutely imperative that we keep each other safe. It is absolutely imperative that we don't objectify trans women in order to prove abstract test cases for the limits of our solidarity.
It is absolutely imperative that we interrogate how our own relationships to cisnormativity and transmisogyny inform how we operate in movement spaces. Anything less is unacceptable. The harm that's been enacted over the past three days is unacceptable.
The lack of accountability I've seen is unacceptable. This is not how we demonstrate care, mutual aid, and solidarity. There are lots of impactful ways to get involved in the Upstate, especially as we face the possible scenarios following next week's election.
This is not the way we model the world we imagine and want to build. This is not the way that we have each other's backs. (P.s. I was not a member of this org but was brought in as an advocate for my partner.)
