OMG! Ok, I don't want to get too excited...but according to several squid experts, this may be the FIRST VIDEO OF A LIVE RAM HORN SQUID! While these squid have many extinct relatives, they're the only ones left of thier kind & have a spiraling shell!

Look: I get it's kind of a potato-shaped buddy, but if this is a ram horn squid (aka Spirula) this is a BIG FREAKING DEAL! Their small chambered gas-filled shell floats & can be found all over, including the Gulf of Mexico where I found one, but the owner of the shell? MYSTERY!

And the wildest part is that THEY SAW IT LIVE ON BROADCAST! If you're not following @SchmidtOcean, if you're not tuning into the live broadcasts: they're AMAZING. Literally, THIS ANIMAL IS PROOF. OMG OMG!

Also for those who are wondering: if this is a Spirula than the shell in on the inside, as this wiki diagram shows. And it has chambers which may allow for buoyancy control. The Whole thing is WILD.
