I've noticed a trend where every post that steven makes is met with multiple replies asking him to put his pronouns in his bio. I'm obviously in favor of pronouns in bio, since that is my entire bio, but these replies are starting to take on a tone where people think that the
fact that steven hasn't acknowledged it makes him complicit in transphobia, the argument being that because putting your pronouns in your bio helps normalize it, that you're making things safer for trans people. which is true! but! please remember, normalization is not mandatory
there are lots of things that should be normalized--mental health struggles, sexuality, body image issues, etc.--that most people understand some people want to keep private. talking about your experiences can help end stigma, but that doesn't mean anyone is obligated to do so
or that not talking about your private feelings is an attack on those who do. in the same way, there are lots of reasons that someone may or may not want to put their pronouns in their bio, and we are literally not entitled to know. it could be for the pettiest reasons, but that
doesn't matter, because it's up to everyone's individual comfort levels. and when you start demanding that people, just because they're (as far as you know!) cisgender, you're not pushing for trans safety-you're normalizing an attitude that is harmful to closeted/questioning ppl
I understand that this started with good intentions, and i think it's absolutely wonderful that shane and ryan put their pronouns in their bio! but at this point, it's safe to say that steven has noticed and has chosen not to, and that is his business!! and as a non-binary person
the continued harassment toward steven quite frankly makes me feel uncomfortable and unsafe, and I've seen multiple other queer/trans people expressing the same sentiments in private, which is why I'm making this thread. i respect the feelings and the sentiment behind it, but I'm
respectfully asking that everyone stop asking steven to put his pronouns in his bio. pushing the attitude that everyone is required to disclose these things is dangerous and misguided, and you have no idea what anyone is going through! so please stop!
