Straight white "moderate" men are some of the most insufferable bc they think they're the "default" humans at the center of the universe, called to correct everyone else's "excesses"—including the expressed realities of marginalized people whose experiences they can't fathom.
"If someone without all my luck and advantages in life expresses fears or worries or hurt that I'll never have to deal with, it must be because they're the sort of overly emotional wannabe victim that the conservative white men I also occasionally tut-tut talk about."
And yes, "not all straight white moderate men."

But I honestly feel like a lot of straight white men choose the "moderate" moniker because it gives them more perceived cultural power to tut-tut everyone else (especially those who aren't the human "default" like them).
And if you're wondering if you were the impetus for these tweets, if you don't have the word "moderate" in your username, it's definitely isn't you.
And to be clear, I'm not really referring to swm who happen to be moderates. I'm referring to guys who wear "moderate" (or "centrist") like some kind of badge of honor, and then use it to signal their reasonableness and clear-eyedness relative to others (an illusion).
I don't even mean "moderate" necessarily in a political sense. Just the overall idea that "I am a straight white male with no partisan allegiances nor any 'grievances' or 'chips on my shoulder,' therefore I have the clearest, most logical view."
