(2:41)

The recent comment made by Pope Francis on same-sex “civil unions” caused the Church to hold her breathe while the State rejoiced in exultation.
I am to make it clear right now: I stand for God so I stand for the Church.
Doubtless there are comments made already—and how sometimes I enjoy reading comments of news articles—stating that it was high time for the world to be freed from the shackles of the “backwards, conservative” Church.
That cannot be but any truer. The Catholic Church’s tradition dates back two millennia and have done so not because of any human ingenuity but by the action of the Holy Spirit.
That and because the Church is founded by the irrevocable will of Christ are reasons why the Church “conserves” her traditions; it is not for her bishops, cardinals, even the Pope who is the representative of Christ here on earth, to change what was revealed by Christ.
That said, the documentary “Francesco” and now the quoted statement on same-sex “unions” turned a lot of heads around, particularly from the elated Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+) community and from enraged Catholics.
Much can be opined from the Pope’s words but I find it adequate to just state the facts and help you form an informed opinion of your own.
1. God is real. As what I’ve already stated above, the Church has to “conserve” her transcendental dimension if she is to be faithful to her identity.
Any recourse in debates to reduce the Church to a mere organization of men and women ruled by men in long, cotton robes in some Italian city who continues to persist in her “outdated” modes of government and belief are to end in futility before a faithful Catholic.
We cannot give up our Divine origins and compromise it so easily.

2. The full quote included in the film is:
““Homosexual people have a right to be in a family. They’re children of God, have the right to a family. You can’t kick someone out of a family, nor make their life miserable for this.
3. LGBTQ+ persons must have and enjoy their human rights, with great emphasis on “human”.
However, we must always remember that there mustn’t be any conflict between the Divine law which, for all its “antiquity”, is geared towards the total good of the person in view of his/her supernatural end.
4. Lastly, one can only so cautiously open a hole. While the statement can certainly be pushing the doctrinal limits of how far same-sex relations can be accommodated, humanity would always seek the widen a hole instead of keeping it that way.
One would only wait for an exception to be made before the mob tries in making it a rule. For example, nobody steps on the grass unless one person starts to cross the park unprohibited and the rest starts to follow.
It only takes one opening in otherwise airtight teaching before a flood of exceptions would come crashing and try widening that hole.
