Recommendation #1: close down the nasty, petty social media accounts (Nat Party Meme Working Group etc) which everyone knows the party is closely involved with.

All they achieve is advertising the loser attitude that has dominated the party's persona in recent years. 1/ #nzpol https://twitter.com/radionz/status/1320811003764850689
The incessant nastiness appeals to no-one who wasn't already a lifer. The "click" popularity of it re-infected the party such that MPs adopted smug attitudes (Penk, Brown, Bidois) that swing voters clearly detested, and even drove many conservative voters from the party etc. 2/
The single best move Nats could do is shut all of those pages down now and reject the type of cynical, underhanded ideas of WhaleOil, Hamish Price, Cactus Cate type characters of the scene. They are dinosaurs who collectively (sometimes paid) eroded trust and respect. 3/ #nzpol
Rec #2: Get better with picking people. Nats have chosen 3 clearly unsuited ppl as leaders in a row. They failed to grasp that elections have become more about the leadership H2H than ever. A Collins cannot beat an Ardern any more than a Woodhouse could beat a... 4/
..Swarbrick. Voters aren't into Thatcher-esque vibes anymore. Snappy, smarmy humour appeals to 1/10th of the ppl that appearing sincere and kind does.

National failed to attract the right ppl for modern pol leadership. Kaye departing was a further flag of this myopia. /5
Rec #3: Get better at ideas.

National's platform was one of trying to appeal to certain people instead of having actual ideas for a better NZ. They were driven to seek attention, wave their arms, invent things, and whinge about the attention they think they're owed. 6/ #nzpol
