Today I found our ward domestic in tears in a store room, why? She had cleaned 14 Covid-19 rooms (and when I say cleaned I mean full and entire environmental cleans of every square inch of the room) and she dreaded having to do this every day again and again. 1/4
When people are throwing plaudits at nurses and doctors for being the frontline, they often don't realise that our domestic staff are the very front of the frontline, disinfecting every room every day to keep the place infection free. 2/4
I've been a nurse for a very long time, I could not do my job without the domestic staff. They're our infection control experts and more importantly, the patients tell them more than they tell us. Wards don't just need doctors and nurses, they need domestic staff. 3/4
So spare a thought for our hard working NHS domestic staff, staff that take pride in keeping wards clean, safe and infection free. They're more important now than ever. Here's to them, heroes each and every one. 4/4
